Sealed bids for the construction of Improvements to the Existing Drainage Channel for the City of Wauchula will be received by the Owner, until 2:00 P.M. on September 27, 2018 local time at the City Administration Building, 126 South 7th Avenue, Wauchula, Florida 33873.  Bids shall be enclosed within a sealed envelope with the words "BID FOR IMPROVEMENTS TO THE EXISTING DRAINAGE CHANNEL" and the Bidder's name clearly marked on the outside thereof.  Bids received after said time will be returned unopened.  Bids will be opened and read aloud publicly.

Copies of the plans and specifications are on file and available for public inspection or may be obtained from the office of the Engineer, Chastain-Skillman, Inc, 205 East Orange Street, Lakeland, Florida, 33801, upon payment of $150, which includes sales tax, for each set.  This fee is non-refundable.  Set includes one printed copy and one CD containing PDF files. Contact Chelsea Worthington at 863-646-1402, extension 1614, to obtain plans and specifications.  Plans and specifications will be available beginning at 12:00 P.M. on August 30, 2018.

Contractors submitting bid proposals must obtain bid documents from the Engineer for bid to be considered.   Contractors submitting bid proposals must submit proposals on all work items in the contract to be considered a responsive bidder.

Character and amount of security to be furnished by each bidder are stated in the bid documents.  The principal features of the Contract include:

The work of this contract generally consists of construction and stabilization of the existing drainage channel, located between Green Street and Main Street, running from South 1st Avenue approximately 2,550 feet east to the City’s wastewater treatment plant in Wauchula, Florida.  The project includes by-pass pumping, approximately 2 acres of demolition and heavy clearing, earthwork, grading and construction of 7,500 square yards of Geoweb Soil Stabilization System.  The cells will be either filled with soil and sodded or be filled with concrete.  The project also includes other erosion protection and limited demolition of utilities with some restoration of existing fences.  The project shall be left in a neat and clean condition.  All workmanship and materials shall be in conformance with the Florida Department of Transportation Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction (2017), and the Design Standards for Design, Construction, Maintenance and Utility Operations on the State Highway System 2017. 

A MANDATORY Pre-Bid meeting will be held on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at 10:30 A.M. local time in the Wauchula City Administration Building, 126 South 7th Avenue, Wauchula, Florida 33873 with a Mandatory site visit to follow.

The Public Construction bond and specified insurance are required to be secured from or countersigned by an agency of the surety or insurance company, which agency shall have an established place of business in Florida and be duly licensed to conduct business therein.

The Owner reserves the right to waive informalities in any bid; to reject any or all bids in whole or in part, with or without cause; and/or to accept the bid that in his judgment will be in his best interest.
