Train Depot Renovation

In November of 2011, the CRA recieved a grant from the Economic Development Authority to renovate the north half of the City of Wauchula Historic Train Depot.  The grant was recieved on behalf of Peace River Explorations, a non profit organization that is leasing the Depot for a Welcome Center and museum.

In September 2012, L. Cobb Construction was awarded the bid to complete the restoration.  The project is scheduled for completion in March of 2013.

March 13, 2013 Update - The renovation is at 85% complete.  The ceiling in in place and stained.  The rolling cargo doors have been removed, cut to fit inside the door frame and put back in place.  This allows for the doors to maintain their historic look from the outside while setting flush with the wall on the inside thus making it functional for display space.

March 31, 2013 Update - The renovations are complete.  Check out the photos for a glimpse of final product.  Peace River Explorations has leased the building from the City and will serve as a Welcome Center along with displaying and selling local goods and artwork.  If you are interested in leasing the space for an event you can contact them at 863-767-9999.
