Hydrant Flushing to Begin August 31st

Fire Hydrant

The City of Wauchula Water Utility Department will begin flushing fire hydrants on Monday, August 31, 2020.  Work will begin on the east side of the City and move westward until all hydrants have been flushed.  It is expected to take two weeks to get through all of the hydrants.  The work will be done during normal business hours, 7 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Hydrant flushing plays an important role in our maintenance program and helps to assure proper operation in the event of an emergency.  In addition, hydrant flushing can help improve water quality.  Unfortunately, hydrant flushing can cause temporary discolored water and/or decreased water pressure.  The discolored water is caused by removal of accumulated iron and manganese that have settled in the main.  This may cause some temporary inconvenience, but does not pose a health risk.  However, we do recommend to avoid washing laundry during periods of temporarily discolored water.  Feel free to contact customer service at (863) 773-3131 with any questions.
