The
City of Wauchula will be hosting a guided tour of Peace River Park. The tour is
open to the public and will be free of charge. Sturdy walking shoes, sunscreen
and water are recommended. The tour will start at 9 a.m. and typically lasts 2
hours.
Peace
River Park is a 155-acre parcel of land located on the south side of Main Street
and on the west side of the Peace River within the Wauchula City limits. The majority
of the Peace River Park tract has never been significantly altered or developed
for agriculture or other land uses. The project is managed to preserve the mixed
bottomland hardwood forest, improve public access to Peace River, and to provide
optimal wildlife habitat, outdoor recreation and environmental education opportunities. Topics
of discussion will include plant identification, natives vs. exotics, Peace River,
wetlands and flooding.
