WAUCHULA, FL – January 6th, 2017


The Wauchula Police Department and City of Wauchula Customer Service Department have received several calls this morning regarding a utility payment scam.  City of Wauchula customers have received telephone calls from an unknown person representing themselves as a representative of Gulf Power.  This representative is advising City of Wauchula customers their utility bills are overdue and their power will be disconnected if immediate payment is not received during the telephone call.

Representatives of the City of Wauchula have not been calling demanding payment nor is this a practice of the City of Wauchula.  Additionally, the City of Wauchula has not authorized Gulf Power to obtain payment for any City of Wauchula accounts.  If you receive one of these telephone calls immediately hang up and DO NOT provide any personal, account, or credit card information.  If you would like to speak to a City of Wauchula Customer Service Representative regarding any account activity you can contact them at (863)773-3131.
